Book Bag Contributions (Updated) – World Fantasy Convention 2023

Publishers! (And authors if you distribute your own works.) We would love to have you contribute to the convention members’ traditional book bags for the 2023 World Fantasy Convention, which will be held at the Sheraton Crown Center from Thursday, October 26th to Sunday, October 29th, 2023, in Kansas City, Missouri.

We are very especially interested in works by this year’s Guests of Honor (World Fantasy website): Adam-Troy Castro (author); Kij Johnson (author); Jonathan Strahan (editor); Elizabeth Leggett and Vincent Villafranca (artists); Tananarive Due and Steven Barnes (toastmasters); and, special guest Pat Cadigan.

We are expecting about 500 members/attendees at this year’s convention. We would like to have as close to 500 copies of fantasy or horror books as you can provide, but fewer are fine too.

You are welcome to contribute backstock, recent or forthcoming books or magazine issues, samples, graphic novels, comic books, audiobooks, and games that are related to fantasy, science fiction, horror, and genre literature.

Print Books Information

Thank you so much to those who have already shipped contributions to the print format book bag! To those of you who have not, there is still time! We would like to receive the books by October 14, but the sooner the better. The shipping address is listed below. Please let our Conference Co-chair Rosemary Williams, who is receiving the books know what books (titles, authors, ISBNs) you are sending AND the tracking numbers. Virtual Book Bag Information

Our website for the digital book bag is almost ready. Ginny Smith is coordinating the site with the developers, and Ginny is ready to receive your files for it! If you would like to donate fantasy or horror eBooks, please send the following:

A book cover (JPEG or PNG preferred)
The title
The author’s name.
A one- or two-sentence teaser description of the book
The contents of the book in one or more of the following formats: ePUB or PDF or (if you are sending audio files, let me () and Ginny () know. We have already okayed several such contributions.)
Send those files as email attachments to . If you want to compress into a single folder, that’s fine too!
If it is easier for you to send the files to a transfer app like Dropbox, that will work as well. Please contact Ginny for information.

More background on the digital book bag:

The files are stored in a secure, encrypted database.
A two-step verification process will ensure that only WFC members can access the eBooks.
Each eBook can only be downloaded by a member one time. (A member can’t give their email address to someone else to download a book they’ve already downloaded.)
If desired, you can tell us how many copies can be downloaded. (For example, if you only want to give away 25 copies of a title, we can accommodate that.
We can also accept links to eBooks in either format, but vastly prefer the files themselves.

WFC2023 Legal Infomation

Donations may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. WFC2023 has been granted permission by the Mid American Science Fiction and Fantasy Conventions, Inc. (dba Kansas City in 2006 Incorporated), a Missouri nonprofit corporation, to utilize their tax-exempt, IRS 501(c)3, status.

The Employer Identification Number (EIN) for this status is 43-1942518.
