Publishers! (And authors if you distribute your own works.) We would love to have you contribute to the convention members’ traditional book bags for the 2023 World Fantasy Convention, which will be held at the Sheraton Crown Center from Thursday, October 26th to Sunday, October 29th, 2023, in Kansas City, Missouri.
We are very especially interested in works by this year’s Guests of Honor (World Fantasy website): Adam-Troy Castro (author); Kij Johnson (author); Jonathan Strahan (editor); Elizabeth Leggett and Vincent Villafranca (artists); Tananarive Due and Steven Barnes (toastmasters); and, special guest Pat Cadigan.
You are welcome to contribute backstock, recent or forthcoming books or magazine issues, samples, graphic novels, comic books, audiobooks, and games that are related to fantasy, science fiction, horror, and genre literature.
Digital-only works may also be distributed. Our Convention Committee is planning on a virtual book bag site for digital works, and will be providing bookmarks for all members with instructions on accessing the virtual bag. We ask that you consider at least 30 days post-convention for the expiration date for accessing the digital works your provide for convention goers.
Based on past World Fantasy Convention donations, we suggest 300 to 400 copies of each title or a mixed selection of 900 to 1200 items.
If you are interested in donating a single title in quantity, one copy for every household, please let our Publisher Liaison Sara Tompson know at or know.
Any donation is welcome, and there is no fee to place books in the members’ book bags.
Donations may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. WFC2023 has been granted permission by the Mid American Science Fiction and Fantasy Conventions, Inc. (dba Kansas City in 2006 Incorporated), a Missouri nonprofit corporation, to utilize their tax-exempt, IRS 501(c)3, status.
The Employer Identification Number (EIN) for this status is 43-1942518.
If you would like a copy of the Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement laying out this permission, or a copy of the original IRS letter to the KC Worldcon, please contact Sara as she can forward.
To help us coordinate all facets of the convention, any advance information about donations would be greatly appreciated, especially: title, author, number of books, and ISBN. You can send this information to Sara.
We will be renting climate-controlled storage space to store donated books later in the summer, so please do not send any contributions just yet.
Additional details will be provided when available.
Other opportunities for publisher support of WFC2023 include advertising in the Souvenir Program book, sponsoring the Hospitality Suite for an evening, or the Autograph Session Reception, or the Art Show Reception.
